Obituary for Carolyn Martin (Davis)

Carolyn Martin (Davis)
Carolyn Jane Goldsberry Martin the daughter of John and Bertha (Davis) Goldsberry was born March 21, 1927 in Gruver, Iowa. She died quietly in her sleep on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 91.

Carolyn attended Gruver School, graduating from Gruver High School. She played cornet in school band and basketball her senior year. Carolyn went off to Mankato, Minnesota for Secretariate College, with her diploma in hand she came back to Estherville to work.

Carolyn Goldsberry and Vernon (Pepper) Martin had known each other since school, so no surprise when they were married on January 12, 1947. They soon moved onto the homeplace, where they farmed and raised Registered Herefords. Later they adopted three beautiful babies, Cheryl, Kevin and Dale. Carolyn played piano for youth Sunday School every Sunday since she was 12 years old, until she left for College. She sang in the chorus and helped Vernon with High School Sunday School classes for several years. She enjoyed playing the organ and the piano on Sundays for Church, until the Church closed. She enjoyed Afternoon Circle, Bazaars, quilts and making wonderful goodies especially cream puffs. Carolyn was the warmest, most caring, sweetest, kindest, and loving person ever. God and Family, Family and God! Flowers, sunsets, new born calves, baby kittens, and her children and all the grandchildren and great grandchildren were most important to Carolyn. Vernon passed away in 1996.

Left to cherish Carolyn's memory are her children, Cheryl (late Bob) Meyerhoff of Colo, Iowa; Kevin Martin of Rapid City, South Dakota; Dale (Florence) Martin of Estherville; five grandchildren, Theresa Couture of Huxley, Iowa; Myndee (Keith) Horton of Colo, Iowa; Tami (Travis) Aschwege of Rapid City; Rob Martin of Summerset, South Dakota; and Kenny (Rose) Ganzer of Bennet, Iowa; 11 great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Jean Goldsberry of Davenport, Iowa.

She has been preceded in death by her parents, John and Bertha; husband, Vernon; brothers, Floyd and Kenneth Goldsberry; sister, Margaret Catlin and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; niece and nephews and a few precious babies.
Carolyn will be greatly missed by all who loved and cared for her.
