Obituary

Edith "Edie" Avalon Clabaugh, daughter of Sam and Hazel (Minton) Anderson, was born on a farm near Ringsted, Iowa on August 19, 1927. She passed away on November 21, 2019 at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 92 years.

Edie attended country school near Ringsted and graduated from Maple Hill School. While skating in Armstrong she met her future husband Alvin Clabaugh. The couple was married on June 19, 1946. Alvin joined the service and they lived in Washington and California, where Edie worked at the defense plant. Upon Alvin’s discharge, they made their home on the family farm in rural Dolliver. Edie enjoyed being a farm wife and stay at home mom. Edie’s heart was full of love and she opened her home to foster children and her families’ children when they needed a home. After her children were grown, she worked for Weigh-Tronix.

Edie is a member of the Dolliver Methodist Church, where she was active in the Quilter's Club, Chatter Club, and Pioneer Club. She learned to play the organ by ear. Edie enjoyed completing embroidery projects, especially tea towels. She truly enjoyed time spent with family, especially family reunions at Tuttle Lake. Edie always made sure that you had something to eat while at her house or before you left.

Edie is survived by her sons Gary (Louise) Clabaugh of Estherville, Stephen “Steve” Clabaugh of Seattle, WA; daughter-in-law Joy Clabaugh of Estherville; daughters Marcia (Jerry) Davis of Boone, IA and Marlene (Duane) Koenecke of Irving, TX; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her twin sister Elizabeth Vacura of Jackson, Minnesota.

Edie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Dennis Clabaugh, and foster son Larry Anderson. She is also preceded in death by her siblings: Rex Anderson, Stuart Anderson, Gail Anderson, Charlotte Matthes, Margaret Clabaugh, and Marilyn Anderson.
